Faith & Advocacy

As Christians we are called to love God and love our neighbor. One way that we can love our neighbor is by working for justice through advocacy. Advocacy work happens when someone cares enough about the good of their community and its members to speak up on their behalf. You do not have to be an “expert” or a “political activist,” only someone who takes seriously the rights and responsibilities of citizenship.

Advocacy is something that can take place at the federal, state, county, city, and organizational levels.

The Wisconsin Council of Churches provides tools (link to tools page), resources on theology and content (link to topics page), and our staff is available to consult with you about how to engage in advocacy in your local context.

The WCC does advocacy from a faith-rooted perspective, as a part of our philosophy of connecting “Jesus and Justice in Public.”

Our goal is to organize Christians to speak to policymakers and advocate for change, using theology and their faith values as a lens.

The Work We Do

  • Policy Statements

The WCC’s public policy advocacy is guided by Policy Statements that have been adopted by the WCC Board of Directors. These documents bring Biblical study and moral values to bear on ideas of social concern in order to provide a framework for understanding and action by people of faith.

  • Legislative Tracking

During the state legislative sessions, the WCC tracks various pieces of legislation as they work their way through the capitol. At appropriate times we will offer testimony on legislation that aligns with the interest areas of our members.

The 2023-24 Legislative Session has ended. Please check back for more information once the next Legislative Session begins. Click the button below to contact us for more information.

  • Letters of Advocacy

The WCC collaborates with many other organizations to advocate for policy change. Sometimes this looks like signing on to public letters on behalf of our members. Click button below to view the statments.
