Repenting from Christian Nationalism: Lenten Worship Resources

Designed by Carter Baldwin, Carter Designs.

Christian Nationalism has been in the headlines, and we know many faith leaders have been wondering how to respond. We invite you to join with congregations exploring how this is more than a them problem - it's an us problem, too.

The Wisconsin Council of Churches is excited to announce the release of Repenting from Christian Nationalism, a sermon series resource for Lent as a tool to begin (or continue already ongoing) conversations in your congregation. Whether discussing Christian Nationalism is new or something that you have already deeply engaged in, this resource is designed for every level. Based on Year C of the Revised Common Lectionary, you could simply use the preaching themes and liturgy, or you can have a robust engagement by also using social media content, a commissioned hymn, worship arts ideas, a small group resource, and more. We have also created an opportunity for preachers to discuss weekly themes by starting a Discord server.

Resources include:

  • Weekly preaching themes and scriptures for six Sundays plus Good Friday based on the Revised Common Lectionary texts

  • Custom liturgy written by enfleshed, creators of spiritual resources for collective liberation

  • Original music composed by Wisconsin pastor and musician Rev. Jacob Nault

  • Worship arts prompts by Rev. Afi Dobbins-Mays

  • Social Media graphics from Carter Designs

  • Art for each week for use in bulletins and projection (coming soon)

  • Hosted discussion on Discord available to all registered users

  • And more

Themes:

  • Ash Wednesday - Repentance

  • 1st Sunday in Lent - Repenting From Self-Reliance

  • 2nd Sunday in Lent - Repenting From Systemic Violence

  • 3rd Sunday in Lent - Repenting From Avoidance

  • 4th Sunday in Lent - Repenting From White Supremacy

  • 5th Sunday in Lent - Repenting From One Right Way

  • Palm Sunday - Repenting From Domination

  • Holy Week - “My kingdom does not belong to this world"

Funded in part by a grant from the State Ecumenical Executives. #SEEchurchandstate. The grant helped provide artists and writers stipends for their time, and we are asking for a pay-what-you-can contribution to continue the work of the Wisconsin Council of Churches, supporting this and future projects. Don’t let cost be a barrier to your participation in the conversation! Please choose a contribution level that is a reasonable fit for your church size and budget. If you cannot contribute, please get in touch with us for access.
