Many Christians have concerns about war with Iraq and post war events and seek information about nonviolent options or the criteria for a "just" war. The WCC fully realizes there are differences of opinion in our member congregations. Therefore, during these difficult times we are encouraged to study, to dialogue, to seek God's guidance, and to express our views to our nation's leaders. This site offers a host of written statements on these topics developed by the WCC and member denominations. It also provides links to internet resources which provide information about war and nonviolent options, describes the values that are communicated through the various choices, and explains how faith in God can inform our decisions and our witness.
The Board of Directors of the Wisconsin Council of Churches has taken the position that reasonable nonviolent alternatives have not been exhausted to remedy the threats Iraq poses to the world community, questioning whether criteria for just war apply, and expressing concern about provoking further violence in the world.
